Just finally figured it out! The key is configuring the MQTT broker properly. Should have asked sooner.
MQTTMaster: Completely agree — I had the same issue and got it working by recreating the automation. Took me forever to find that configuration option.

I've been using this for a few months and it's been pretty solid. The integrations work well after you configure correctly.
